In Memoriam

It is with deep sadness that SCC acknowledges the passing of our dear friend, former Executive Director Robert Martin.

Bob is survived by his wife, daughter and her husband; 2 grandchildren; several step-children and step-grandchildren; and many friends and loved ones.

Bob earned his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Ecumenical Theological Seminary, and Masters degrees from Yale University and Oakland University.

He served the United Church of Christ as pastor from 1978 until his retirement in 2016.

Bob joined the clinical staff of SCC in February of 2008, and served as Executive Director from 2012 until his retirement in 2016. During this time, he also served on the clinical staff of the Eastwood Clinics in Rochester Hills.

Bob’s deep sense of spirituality inspired his additional training in Bioenergetic Analysis, Reike, and Sikkim. He was particularly fond of the ancient practice of labyrinth walking and meditations.

SCC is particularly grateful to Bob and Cynthia for bequeathing to us the labyrinth banner that hung in the Executive Director’s office during his tenure here. It will be displayed in that office again, in honor of the life that Bob shared with us.

Bob’s compassion, curiosity, whimsy, dedication, and tenderness continue to send ripples of hope and healing into the future of the lives he touched directly, and into the community he served.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 18, 11:00 a.m., at the Congregational Church of Birmingham,UCC, 1000 Cranbrook Rd, Bloomfield Hills , Mi 48304. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Samaritan Counseling Center of SE Michigan Client Assistance Fund (CAF).
